Welcome back to the weekly wrap up! We’re hitting the top five stories of the week in 500 words or less.
Head to head — Last week Jay-Z slammed Donald Trump for what the rapper called “hurtful” comments by a “closet racist.” President Trump wasted no time in firing back at Jay-Z with this tweet:
DACA Extension — After the government reopened, President Trump finally gave members of Congress what they’d been hoping for: terms of a DACA deal. He said he would be willing to look at a deal that gave citizenship to DACA recipients in 10-12 years but included that he wanted $20,000,000 to build “the wall.” We’ll have to wait and see if the President can close this deal.
Nassar’s Sentencing — Former Olympic Doctor, Larry Nassar, was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing young women in his care. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina allowed the victims to give their testimonies, including former Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. As Judge Aquilina put it, she “signed [his] death warrant.”
Patriots are in… again — Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady is going for his sixth Super Bowl ring next Sunday night. The New England Patriots are headed to their tenth Super Bowl, and their eighth since 2000. One more win and the Patriots will be tied with the Steelers for most Super Bowl wins at six.
Keep climbing — The Dow Jones closed at another record high on Friday at 26,616.71. Recent polls have shown that American citizens see Donald Trump’s presidency as a significant factor in the stock market’s recent success.
