On November 2, 2017 at about 8:05 PM, Twitter Government Tweeted, “Earlier today @realdonaldtrump’s account was deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.”
Later that same day at 10:00 PM, Twitter Government @TwitterGov Tweeted, “Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review.”
The President Tweeted on his account, @RealDonaldTrump “My Twitter account was taken down for 11 minutes by a rogue employee. I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact.”
At the writing of this story, I reached out to Twitter for comment. Twitter has not returned answers to my questions. I Tweeted to @TwitterGov and @Twitter the following questions, “What will be done with employee who took @realdonaldtrump acct down? Prosecution? Civil suit? Will there be a consequence?”
What are your thoughts on this outage? Was this truly a rogue employee or was it an honest mistake? Please comment.
